I was tagged by Amy to tell my love story so here it goes:
1) Where did you and your husband meet? We first met at church in Manhattan, KS in August of 2000. My sister, Carmin, actually had called me while I was out Nannying in CT to tell me that there were a couple of cute guy's that had moved to Manhattan for school. Of course Kenny was one of those guy's, so I was excited to get back to school in the fall to see for myself the cute boys. Carmin then introduced me to Kenny while at church as a new classmate in her vet school.
2) First thing said? At church is was just "hello." However, the next time I talked to Kenny was when I picked up Carmin and him from the vet school to drive them to Institute class. I made a great first impression on him because I actually managed to hit a parked car as I was trying to back-up out of the parking lot. He told me I was a crazy driver!
3) First date? February 10, 2001 was actually our official first date, but I have to tell about the day before first. It had snowed a ton and K-State had closed classes for the day. I was supposed to be going on a date that evening, with another guy, but called and asked if we could reschedule due to the weather. I had been talking with Kenny on the phone at this point and didn't want him to think I liked this other guy, who had actually asked Kenny if he cared if he could take me on a date. I called Kenny to tell him I cancelled the date and he asked if he could come over to hang-out. My heart was racing at this point and I was nervous and ecstatic all at the same time! I told him to come on over and we had the most fun day ever. We spent the whole day playing outside in the snow. We had a snowball fight and dug a huge snow tunnel. We spent the afternoon laughing, talking, and drinking hot apple cider. That evening we went sledding behind Kenny's GEO Prizm with my sister Carmin and her boyfriend, now husband, Matt. We opened up the back of the hatchback and one person held on to jumper cables in the back seat while another person on a sled held on to the opposite end. We had so much fun together that day, however our fun ended when we were pulled over by the cops and told to put the sled away!
The next day, February 10, 2001 Kenny asked me to a movie and we went to see "Cast Away." After the movie I invited him back to my apartment where we cooked vegetarian spaghetti and spent the rest of the eveing talking and eating. Kenny was a good sport about the veggie meat!
4)First Kiss? This is actually kind of embarassing, but here it goes. I don't remember the date of the first kiss, but it was a long time after the first date. Kenny is a ....slow....slow...slow...mover. I decided I was just going to have to kiss him because I didn't think he would ever make the move. Come to find out, he had made a bet with some friends that the next girl he would kiss, would be the girl he was going to marry! No wonder he was so slow! Anyways, we were in my room, listening to music and talking and I wanted to kiss him so bad. I tried to make the move, but we definately have a height difference between the two of us and I totally missed his mouth! He replied, "Did you just try to kiss me?" I was so embarassed!!! However, after some teeth bashing, we finally got it right!
5) When "I Love You's" were first said: We were at my parents house in KS and Kenny was standing at the top of the stairs and I was walking into the kitchen he mouthed what I thought was "I LOVE YOU" but was actually, "Olive Juice." What a jokester! We actually then told eachother "I love you" at my sister Carmin's wedding to Matt!
6) Long or short courtship/engagement? Kenny and I started dating in February of 2001, were engaged in July 2001, and married December 21, 2001. Short for most people, but too long for us!
7) Where did you get engaged? I love to rollerblade, so on the day Kenny proposed he went out and bought himself a pair of rollerblades. We spent the afternoon rollerblading around Manhattan, and even wore our rollerblades into our favorite Chinese restaurant for dinner. After dinner Kenny asked me if I would want to climb a water tower and look at the stars. My first response was, "isn't that illegal?" To which he replied, "Yes, but we won't get caught." We went and bought rope and climbed to the top of a water tower. We looked at the stars and the Manhattan city lights. After night gazing, Kenny told me that he had gotten a necklace that day. I asked him where it was and he pulled some string up from around his neck. It was dark, so I had to look closely, and to my shock I saw a ring hanging off the end. He immediately got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. He slipped the ring on my finger and I said, "YES!!!"
8) Where did you get married? We got married December 21, 2001 in the Manti Temple.
9) Where did you go on your honeymoon? We went to Ouray, CO where we went skiing, ice skating, hiking, and to the hot water springs. We had a lovely time!
10) I'm adding this one because I think there needs to be 10 questions! Where did you make your first home? We spent the first month of our married life at our Bishop's home because our townhouse was not ready to move into yet. What a great place to be when you are first married! We eventually moved into a 2 bedroom/1 bath townhouse that was built in the 60's. It had a very outdated kitchen, but we were lucky to have brand new carpet and a fresh coat of paint. The division of homes were nicknamed the Mormon/Muslim Compound! It was a great first little home.
